About the Project

Transformation brought together ceramic artists from different countries to reflect on change through material, process, and personal experience. Rather than proposing a common visual language, the project invited multiple interpretations to coexist, allowing transformation to emerge through diverse artistic practices and cultural perspectives.

Developed through an international open call, the project became a platform for artistic dialogue where ceramics served as a shared language for thinking about change, resilience, and continuous becoming.

Exhibition Statement

Transformation is an essential and fundamental concept. The structure of life on Earth, human civilization, inventions, and discoveries have all been shaped by the continuous desire for change. Transformation has always been an inseparable part of both nature and human existence, while time remains its most influential force.

Over the past two years, we have all experienced a form of transformation on a global scale unlike anything before. Familiar ideas such as place and time, life and death, physical presence, isolation, and freedom have all acquired new meanings.

For ceramic artists, transformation is not only a concept but also part of everyday practice. Every stage of the process, from building the form to glazing and firing, is itself an experience of continuous change.

These experiences inspired me to choose Transformation as the theme of the third BON ART PROJECT. At the same time, the project itself underwent significant changes. An international jury, the participation of 150 artists from 32 countries, the selection of 34 artists from 19 countries, sixteen artist interviews, five final award recipients, and the introduction of new non-cash awards all became part of this new direction.

I hope these developments will lead to broader physical exhibitions in Iran and future international collaborations.

Curatorial Framework

Rather than approaching transformation as a fixed theme, the project was conceived as an open curatorial platform that encouraged multiple readings of the same concept. Artists from different countries were invited to respond through their own visual language, material, and cultural experience without being directed toward a shared aesthetic.

The project unfolded through an international open call, an independent jury process, artist interviews, a digital catalogue, and an online exhibition. Together, these elements expanded the exhibition beyond the presentation of artworks, creating an evolving platform for dialogue and exchange across geographical and cultural boundaries.

Position within My Curatorial Practice

A milestone project in the development of BON ART PROJECT, expanding its international network and establishing a research-driven curatorial platform for contemporary ceramic practice.
